Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Westerville, Ohio

By RetroRuth

This week the house is all about the angles!

This home is located at 4518 Ravine Drive in Westerville, Ohio. It has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, and is approximately 4400 square feet. It was built in 1961 and the current asking price is $600,000. It is being listed on HER Realtors, and you can see the listing here. From the listing:

Fabulous setting and extraordinary architecture. First time on the market since 1979. This home if renovated likely is a $1.2M property so understanding that, you know you need to spend some significant dollars to update it but what a worthwhile investment!!! You just don’t see Mid Century properties like this on a private lake in Central Ohio minutes from the airport and Easton. And with this much land and privacy-it is truly a rare opportunity.

So, what do you think? I absolutely love it. There are a couple of 80’s elements that need to be eradicated, but otherwise is awesome. I love all the natural stone, the ceilings and the windows. And the entryway slays me. Some new carpeting and new flooring in a couple of key places, and this would be ready to rock and roll.

Thanks to What’s Your Abode on Instagram where I saw this house and fell in love with it!

I’m sad that the realtor touts “renovation” (read: undo the home’s originality), rather than appeal to those of us who cherish the restoration of such a grand home. I hope the new buyer appreciates the same.

Maybe wood needs to be cleaned, and some minor items but this home doesn’t need renovations. Being from Southern California I always wonder how cold it will be in the winter with all those glass areas. Such a beautiful view I wouldn’t put drapes on them.

The cream carpeting can go… and maybe fixing bathrooms to a more apropos look. Would live in this home at a moment’s notice.

What do you think the dark green thing mounted on the plaid wall is?

I’m usually pretty good about figuring out things like that, but this has me baffled. It looks like it is hinged from the top and there are straps to hold it up. A bunk bed? Another mystery – in the following pic of the same room it looks like a trap door set by the window to the left. And what is with that uncarpeted area?
This house needs and deserves some respectful renovation.

I was thinking it’s massage table that folds down.

It looks to be a Murphy Bed. The hinged top rail would fold down and rest against the bench.

Could the green thing on the plaid wall be another bed platform?

I’m not fond of so much stone inside the house. How do you keep that clean.

The kitchen, though, is pretty terrific. The cabinets appear to be original, just the appliances have been changed out. Bet the originals were copper tone or harvest gold.

My guess on the missing carpet area is perhaps a pool table or a hot tub.
