Retro Craft Time – Vintage Poodle Shadowbox!!

By Sara In AZ

Sooooooooo, I recently bought pretty much the cutest poodle set ever from the thrifttwins !!

image

I mean really, are they not the MOST adorbs poodles ever?! Smile

I knew, for sure, they’d be right at home in the poodle bathroom….

image

But, I just wasn’t sure where or how I wanted to hang them since they are mostly pretty small and I felt like they might get lost on the wall. I pondered it for a while and the the light bulb went off…….*shadowbox*!!

I went down to Michaels to pick up a sweet little scalloped shadowbox I used for some of my mermaids because it was the perfect small-ish size…..and how can you go wrong with scallops?!

image

I cleaned all of the poodles………

image

…………and then I decided I wanted to change up the background in the frame for these sweet pups!

I peeled the fabric off of the foam backer because I want to use a vintage wallpaper as a background. It peeled off really super easy as I believe it is only lightly tacked on with spray adhesive.

image

Then I peeled the foam off of the back of the picture frame. This was also easy to do as you can see it was only held on with some double sided tape.

I decided to use this vintage pink poodle wallpaper….I had wanted to hang this one one wall in the poodle bathroom but we just did not have enough. I am SO glad I finally have a use for it!

image

I played around with several ideas on how to frame these up…………..

image

image

Eventually I thought this scene looked the cutest!

image

I busted out the good old universal wallpaper paste……

image

….and got to town applying it to the back of my poodle wallpaper.

image

The lines are just pencil marks I made so I would know where I wanted to place the foam backer.

Here the wallpaper has been adhered to the foam backer and even though I did not show this step – you must make sure to roll out any bubbles you have on the top surface before the glue dries!!

image

I cut all of the corners so I could wrap them nicely around the back side of the foam backer.

image

image

Here is the foam all finished and still drying.

image

Wait for the glue to dry for at least 24 hours….now we have to re-adhere the backer to the wood picture backer…..

image

….I used some 15 pound rated Scotch foam mounting tape.

image

And I proceeded to stick foam tape ALL over the back of the foam!

image

Make sure you align the foam on the wooden backer properly.

image

It’s FINALLY time to set the poodles on the backer! YAY!!! I used the same foam tape to stick them the foam backer.

image

And I do believe we can finally put a wrap on the project!

image

Here the are finally hanging in the poodle bathroom!

Truly amazing, Sara! You are so creative. Such a great idea, not to mention a great way to showcase smaller vintage pieces. I love it! I’ve said it before and I’ll keep on saying it, you are the mid-century whisperer.
