Won’t You Be My Neighbor Special Edition – A Happy Ending For My Time Capsule Home!

By RetroRuth

If you have been following along with my recent posts, you will have seen that we are moving out of our glorious mid-century home. If you want the whole photo walkthrough and the backstory, you can see the traditional WYBMN post here. For a more detailed walkthrough of the finishes, furnishings and light fixtures, you can look at this post to get all caught up.

However, I am very happy to report that we have sold our vintage home! And not just to any buyer, but a buyer who appreciates mid-century architecture and is planning on keeping the home in its current state. They even bought some of our furniture so it can look exactly the way it does now. I can’t even tell you how thrilled I am to get this happy ending. And it really isn’t even an ending, but a new beginning with a new, very nice family for our beloved home.

So we still have to say goodbye to our beautiful home, but at least we get to do it with a happy heart instead of being worried about the old girl. And I have to say finding our buyer was 100% thanks to our great team at Modern Realty. Travis and Logan both worked closely with us and actually listened to all of my sniffling, barely coherent pleas for them to help us find the right buyer. And they gave us the advice and guidance we needed to really get our home together and give it the best public face we could to really sell the mid-century lifestyle to potential buyers. They also never even suggested that we repaint to beige or anything like that. They really had respect for our house and the look we were going for. And it totally worked. We found the buyer our house needed, the one who came in and bought the whole mid-century lifestyle package we wanted to offer potential buyers. They are very excited to move into the home, and we are very thankful that we can hand the keys over to them.

But, as a cherry on top, Modern Realty also insisted (much to our delight) on having the fantastic photos of our home taken for our listing, and on top of that made the most gloriously informative video walkthrough. The home sold before we could unveil the walkthrough, but I am happy to say that they still made it available so I can share it with you all!

Wasn’t that great? I am so thrilled to have been able to help Travis educate potential buyers, and he is planning on doing a great video like this for future mid-century homes that are sold through Modern Realty as a way to educate the public on what a unique find a mid-century home is. I will make sure to share future videos with you all as well.

So, it’s the end of a fantastic chapter of my life. The moving van is packed, the last kitchen cabinet is wiped out and after I finish this post I’m going to kiss my kitchen cabinets goodbye for the last time. But, there will be more posts and photo updates as we work on our new home. As I mentioned before, it’s a new build, which we picked because of various reasons that come when you have a young family that has lots of needs. And a severe lack of mid-century homes on the market. But I am excited about the opportunity to shift my focus a bit to the reproduction and the modern side of mid-century modern. For the curious, here is a picture of the new home, which is still in progress.

It’s really, really different, right? It’s going to take a bit of getting used to, but I’m going to paint that front door a funky color, get some fiberglass planters and enjoy the heck out of this house, too!

Glad you liked it, Melinda! And thank you, it’s going to be a bit of a rough design road, but I’m looking forward to the new house being done!

Best of luck in your new home.
P.S. If you have an HOA, forget about a funky color front door!

      Thanks, Beth!

Yeah, I’m going to see if I can stretch the definition of “blue” a bit. 🙂
