Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Salem, Oregon

By RetroRuth

This week we have a Streamline Moderne home! I have to admit that having a home like this one is a secret dream of mine. And also Tom’s. There is a home similar to this that is in Bay City, Michigan that we always drive past and drool over when we go antiquing.

This little cutie is located at 1080 Glen Creek Rd NW in Salem, Oregon. It is two bedrooms and one bathroom and is approximately 1,100 square feet. It was built in 1946 and the asking price is $330,000. It is listed by Excel Real Estate, and you can see the listing on Zillow here. From the listing:

Unique & Custom West Salem Estate on .71 acre. Home/full unfinished basement & detached garage are oval shaped completely rounded.. Property offers lots character but needs some updating. Enclosed look out patio on 2nd floor. (Please do not walk on roof) All bedrooms have hardwood floors & built-in’s. Vintage bath with checkerboard flooring. Ceiling’s are rounded throughout entire home. Fenced yard. Buyer to do their due diligence regarding dividing property. Property is being sold “as-is”. No repairs.

Ok, so, this home obviously needs some love, but I just think it’s so cool looking. I just love the kitchen with the curved lines. Love, love, love!

Also, thanks to cheapoldhouses on Instagram, where I saw this beauty!

What do you think about this little house? Let me know!

What a fun house. I’d make it a weekend retreat. However, I wonder about that bathroom sink’s plumbing on an exterior wall. Freeze hazard in winter?

Salem gets lots of rain so my concern would be a flat roof. I love how the garage even matches the house. It is a great looking property and since it has stood this long, I’m sure it’s got lots of life left in it.

You should definitely buy this one! You would love Salem, and we could go thrifting together. Win-win!!

That kitchen and that remarkable coving treatment were not cheap – remarkable to find them in such a modest house. I’m sure there’s a story here somewhere. What a treasure this could be with a lot of love and a bit of color.
