Cool Candle Holders

By Julia

When visiting an estate sale recently, I had to take a moment to appreciate the home. The owner was an architect and had not only designed the original structure, but all of the additions as their family grew. There was a separate full kitchen hiding in the basement next to the canning cellar at which I had to marvel. It took me a moment to figure out the second kitchen was likely there for the purpose of canning and preserving produce. Anyway, the basement was full of many other treasures, including their retro Christmas decorations, vintage clothing, and a set of Danish modern candle holders. I walked past the candle holders several times. At first I thought they were too strange. Then I wondered where I would use them. Finally, I decided they were too unique to pass up. As a bonus, the price was reasonable.

The first piece would hold a trio of taper candles. I love the wood and chrome combination- the chrome is in excellent shape and so sparkly!

I’m also a fan of the kidney-shaped base. The chrome basins at the bottom of each individual candle holder are a great idea- both practical and fun.

The other pieces I found were a pair of individual taper candle holders. The conical shape of the base is a unique contrast to the tri-candle holder.

I am excited about the versatility of this set. I can put out two, three, or five candles at a time and each variation will still look like a complete set. Dinnertime feels so much more fancy now!

What about you, dear readers? Have any of you stumbled upon unique treasures at estate sales lately?

I love the first set of candle holders. Very unique to have the dark wood contrast with the bright and shiny chrome. I can just imagine seeing candles lit. You should post some pictures with these holders – complete with candles and lit. It would really enhance the pieces.

I’ll have to pick up some taper candles and test them out!
