Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Lincolnwood, Illinois

By RetroRuth

This week we have a really fab house that has some gleaming paneling and pretty much the best bathrooms!

This home is located at 4840 W Morse Ave in Lincolnwood, Illinois. It is four bedrooms and four full and two half bathrooms and is approximately 4,3000 square feet. It was built in 1963 and the asking price is $719,000. It is listed by Sotheby’s International and you can see the listing here. From the listing:

Stunning, Mid-Century Modern Home! Four thousand three hundred plus square feet of living space in this special home. Large, gracious rooms and pristine original details. Sun filled kitchen with ample counter and cabinet space and breakfast room. Formal, wood paneled living room with wood burning fireplace. Dramatic dining room overlooking professionally landscaped yard. Separate in-law suite off of living room, complete with bedroom, bathroom, and den. The expansive master suite features a dressing area, his and hers closets, and private bathroom. All bedrooms have an en suite bathroom. The lower level features an expansive family room with fireplace and original seating area with built-in stools. The fourth bedroom, wet bar, and laundry room complete the lower level. Two brick paver patios. Charming shed/artist studio. Convenient location, minutes to downtown Chicago, close to shopping and restaurants.

Ooooooookay. So, those pink vanities with the round glass doors? Those are pretty much the best. Hands down. Or maybe that card/poker table setup in the basement? (That is what that’s meant for, right?) Also, fish shower doors. I mean, fish. Love those.

What was your favorite detail?

I really like the living room and dining area, hopefully buyers will leave everything as it is! The kitchen needs older appliances though. The double wall oven could stay but the rest would have to go (or maybe the Sub-Zero could be fitted with coppertone panels!).

I just noticed from the other pics in the listing that the bar has a Nutone food center and there’s also a built-in Nutone entertainment center!

I live not far from this house, based on estate sales I’ve been to there are still quite a few “time capsule” mid-century houses like this in the area. This is a high-end neighborhood and people tended to stay in their houses for a long time. Unfortunately it is highly unlikely that this house will survive in its present condition in that area. It looks like some “staging” had already been done. The small dining room next to the kitchen looks to have had wood paneling originally if you look closely at the photos, it certainly originally wasn’t painted gray. All that furniture looks brought in for staging, especially the main dining room (seen on the additional photos on the Realtor’s site).
Note that this house is adjacent to a very busy and loud expressway, so it wouldn’t be great for somebody who likes to spend time outdoors.

I adore those patterned ceilings and all of the hanging light fixtures.
