Mike and Sara Rehab a 60s Retro Ranch : eBay Score–Vintage Ruth Richmond Weiser Gold Flake Door Knobs

By Sara In AZ

You know how it is when you are just sitting there on any old regular day, not really a whole lot happening…maybe you are just running errands or something…and then you get a text or e-mail that just blows up your day!? Yeah, that was me a few months ago! I was just sitting there, minding my own business, when out of the blue Mike texts me a picture of some New Old Stock door knobs saying something like,” Maybe you’d want to pick one of these up for the poodle bathroom?” And I was thinking, “Why would I want to change the doorknobs, I am fine with our copper doorknobs”

Until I saw the holy grail of doorknobs in the picture he sent to me!!!!

Wait, what?!?!!! I quickly text him back for the information and he sent me a link to an eBay auction where a seller had multiple New Old Stock gold flake Weiser doorknobs up for sale!!! EEK!!!!!!

*Side note* this listing was up months ago, none of these knobs are for sale any longer.

FAST!!! We had to act VERY fast!!!! Things quickly spiraled out of control …offers were made and counter offers were made….and before we knew it we were replacing every single doorknob in our entire house.! Yes, we went a little bit insane for the Weiser gold flake door knobs!

I was on pins and needles until the box arrived! It was like Christmas day opening the box!

I was SO excited to see the knobs – they were just as beautiful in person as I thought they would be!

Here are some close-ups of the box.

We actually wound up getting different knob types for the various doors in our house…closet knobs, dummy knobs, non-locking knobs…this was just the box for the locking bed/bath knob.

Here is a close-up of our old knob, we are going to keep all of them so we just boxed them up.

Our original doorknobs were Weiser as well so it made the change-out very easy! All we had to do was unscrew the knobs………..

….then remove both sides of the knob…………

….and *poof* the new/vintage knob is installed in a jiffy!

Here you can see the side by side comparison of the old knobs to the new knobs. I think it’s very cool that we found knobs with the exact same type of etched metal finish!

YAY!!! All the new knobs are installed in the hallway!

And in the bathrooms too!

I am SO thrilled Mike came across these door knobs, I just love them to bits!

Thanks Jacki! I am not totally sure on the year….in my gut I feel like mid 60s to mid 70s is when these things were made.
