Jacki and Dave Retro Renovate Their Forever Home – The eBay Kitchen That Captured Their Hearts!

By Sara In AZ

Jacki and Dave – you are definitely my retro renovating heroes!!! This fabulous mid century kitchen, in the following pictures,  caught the eye of Jackie and Dave years before they found their “forever” home. They decided to bite the bullet and buy all this mid century goodness and store it until they found just the right home to install it all in! Read on for the full story from Jacki.

The kitchen was removed from a Mid Century mansion in Cleveland Ohio. I had seen the link to the eBay ad on another website that was discussing the Gerrity Princess faucet.  The faucet really wasn’t the main item that I was after.  I loved the idea of a vintage maple kitchen complete with vintage appliances so I showed the ad to Dave.

Never in million years would I ever have guessed that he would suggest buying it and putting it in storage for our next home.  He was more enthusiastic about the idea than I was.

We were still living in AZ when we saw it and hadn’t even decided where we would move to and when.  After some questions back and forth with the owner, we made the decision to bid.  I have bought some crazy big items off eBay before, but nothing this massive.

The morning the auction was to end eBay had a major glitch in their bidding system and you couldn’t place a bid through their normal online bidding system.

Dave got the bright idea to bid from his iPhone on the eBay app.  How and why that worked I will never understand, but it did and we were the only ones who bid so we got it !

If you had asked me if I thought we would ever have a place to set up this huge kitchen, I would have bet you 10 to 1 No way.

When we were looking for “the perfect house” the first question we always asked ourselves was “will the kitchen fit?” which really isn’t the best way to buy a house.

In the end the eBay kitchen looks great in our vintage basement.

Jacki – I LOVE that y’all always asked yourselves “Will this kitchen fit?” It’s such an amazing kitchen…and ALL the cool extras that came along with it…..WOW!

This faucet is seriously killing me! SWOON!!!!!

Come back next week to see Jackie and Dave finally start the massive installation of this vintage kitchen in the basement of their forever home!

OMG! I’m in love. What an amazing find. The eBay Gods were definitely watching over them.

The house I grew up in, had those exact same maple cabinets, only the hardware was different.

I can’t wait to see more. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Susan. :^) I love maple cabinets also. It just seems like they make the room lighter and more spacious and being a basement kitchen lighter is definitely better.

Thank you Susan. It was really hard to picture how it would all turn out. I had originally planned to do this kitchen in pink like my last one. And yes… Dave is definitely a keeper, it’ll be 37 years in March. :^)
