Vintage Fabric Haul – Be Still My Heart!

By Arleen

I was hit by a stroke of luck this past weekend! I found a great stash of fabric! FINALLY! As we walked up to the store, I noticed a sign on the window detailing the assortment of fabrics inside. I wasn’t immediately excited, but thought I should take a look anyway, as the clerk pointed me in the right direction. Upon approaching, I started to get more excited then I really should admit.

Wouldn’t this desk also make a great sewing table? All that space!

Not just the tease of small pieces, but yardage! My little dressmaking dreams are coming true right now. Inexpensive vintage fabric in the wild! I frantically started digging for all the pieces that would join my stash at home.

Oh, the variety! Looking back, I am seeing more pieces I might have use for, however this is the point where I draw the line. I can’t hoard all the fabric.

After bringing my lovely little finds home, I acquainted them with the hutch they will be living in for the time being. My hutch of sewing and curiosities. Someday I will have my very own sewing room, and this hutch can actually live out its dream of holding elegant plates and bowls.

Now for the good stuff – what did I actually get my little hands on here? Lets start with this happy floral. I am not quite sure how I will utilize this smooth and drapey voile fabric, but good thing I have all winter to decide!

I couldn’t go on with out this poplin gothic rose print. It will become a sundress, I’m sure. However at this point in the game, I am open to suggestions. I will say right now, a very full skirt should be involved.

Holy hibiscus! This rayon had me at hello. Just imagine the sarong dress this will make. When you are having a really cold moment this winter, think of this to get you through. Summer, we will meet again!

This geometric rayon is so dreamy. The piece is a bit shy to make a blouse, but just right for a over sized scarf.

Last, but certainly not least, are these utterly adorable jacquard sweater knits. Apples, roses and horses are simply too cute to pass up. I know I have a place in my wardrobe for some vintage casual stapes such as some cropped sweaters to wear with my jeans and loafers. Swoon!

Happy sewing!

xoxo
