Classic Board Games: Sorry Edition

By Julia

My favorite board game, hands down, is Sorry. My brother introduced it to me and taught me how to play when I was a kid. It was a perfect game for my little kid understanding, but it has continued to be my one true board game love. If anyone ever asks me what game I want to play, the answer is always Sorry. So naturally, when I saw a Craigslist post for a retro Sorry edition, I had to snap it up.

The game itself looks to be in decent shape, although there seems to be a little water damage to the edge of the box.  I love the font used in the game title. It is simple and direct and doesn’t need other illustrations.

Much like my mom’s “Clue” game, the box art is mirrored on the outside of the game board. The fonts and illustrations remind me of retro ads from the 60s, and I love the little peg holders in the box. I have a newer version of the game and it is definitely not this cool.

The game board itself hasn’t changed much over the years, but I think this one looks decidedly more mid-century than other versions I’ve played. I just love how the straight-forward concept of the game has stood the test of time. Of course, I’m a little biased. My family is always begging me to choose a different game when we sit down to play.

What about you, dear readers? Do any of you have a favorite classic board game?

I purchased a game of “Life” from the 1960’s on eBay. The one that had Art Linkletter’s endorsement on the box and the version I played as a child.

The beauty of this game is that it takes no time to learn and kids can whomp the grownups.
