Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Madison, TN

By Eartha Kitsch

This week’s home has everything. Well, at least MY everything: knotty pine, fun wallpaper, beautiful colors and decor touches. It’s a lot of vintage traditional but it has a wild side too. When I first saw this house, I put the photos on slideshow in large mode and watched them pass before my eyes over and over again while thinking, “Hmm….Madison…Should we move to Madison?”

This home is located at 103 Diane Court in Madison, Tennessee. Madison is located in Northeast Nashville.  It has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and is 2,611 square feet. The home was built in 1955 and is being offered at $244,900. It is listed with Becky Thomas with Benchmark Realty. From the listing:

Charming traditional ranch with a functional design situated on a beautiful large lot. Features spacious rooms, den with built-ins, huge recreation room with full bath that’s perfect for extended family. Private phone booth, double carport & deck.

Yes, you heard that right. A private phone booth! We’ll get to that in a minute though. Let’s take a closer look at this home!

I really like the ironwork and the flagstone planter across the front.

That whole green wing of the house tickles me to no end. I love how they even included a sweet little foyer going out to the patio space. It looks like that space was a conversion (likely from a garage)  in 1978. That could definitely explain the punchy colors and decor, right? It all reminds me of something from a  decor book from that era. An entire house of that style might be too much for most people but I think I’d really enjoy having that wing as a fun surprise. I’d definitely have to make that my studio space if this was my house. I’d kitsch it OUT!

Ah, this home delights me! Besides switching out some bathroom light fixtures and removing ceiling fans, I’d leave everything else intact.  I’d even keep the telephone room. Maybe it would make me enjoy talking on the phone for once!  Or it could be a tiny little cat-free computer room. What do you think of this home, readers?

Thanks to my pal Brian for sending this one my way – and for making me begin an obsession with this home. Also, thanks to him for pulling the permits and revealing the history behind “the green wing”.

The den and the phone booth room are too die for! This actually reminds me that, when I was growing up, our phone was in the front hall walk-in closet – same idea, but not so cute that this little room. (You ended up having to sit next to everyone’s coats and the vacuum cleaner.)

I want it! The giant braided rug would have to be written into the contract! I love then vent hood in the kitchen, the old, school desk in the telephone room and that interior, hanging, wicker swing!!!

The patio and backyard are pretty nifty, as is that phone booth. The living room furniture is just comical. I wonder if that was actually there or if the realtor put it in for ‘show’?

I wonder if they would sell all of those wonderful beds with the house?

Holy Sheeto! I thought it was finished after the bedrooms and bath – then it went on to the incredible basement and laundry room, not to mention the spectacular green bathroom! One would have to fully dedicate all free time to enjoying this home. I want one like this please!

What?? The green wing is a wing?? I thought it was the basement! Is there a basement? That is a lot of space packed into one floor!

Fabulous through and through. My big swoon actually is the decorative metalwork on the home’s front and what I’m guessing is a double space carport. Absolutely love that and it’s something that always catches my eye when I look at houses.

I think I spy 2 Munising wooden bowls – one on the kitchen counter and possibly another on the green room’s coffee table. I think this house had been my very favorite so far because of how much fun I’m having looking at all the details and discovering hidden surprises!

I love seeing other people with their Fostoria punch bowl on the dining room table!
